'Miss America' No Longer Has A Network
Posted by Rick Jessup, October 21 12:30 PM

For the first time in over 50 years the famed 'Miss America' pageant is without a broadcast home with the news that ABC has decided against renewing the low-rated annual program. ABC had run the program since 1997, paying as much as $5,000,000 per year for the right to do so. NBC had been home to the pageant for 29 of the 30 years preceding 1996. Ratings have been on a steady decline for years, culminating in a broadcast this past September 18th viewed by under 10,000,000 people, the smallest audience ever for the program. Arthur McMaster, the President and CEO of the Miss America Organization, remarked "we are now free to pursue other parties who have expressed interest in our organization, and we are excited at the limitless opportunities that are now available for us to grow our brand".
