‘Star Wars’ Continues to Smash Records

Nobody knows if it’ll have the legs to pitch for the most successful film in the franchise, but ‘Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith’ is well on its way to becoming one of the top films of all time. Figures released yesterday show a four-day intake of $158.5 million, significantly more than the previous four-day record of $134.3 million set by ‘The Matrix Reloaded’. Three-day numbers up to Saturday night were $124.7 million, besting the $114.8 million earned by ‘Spider-Man’. Taking into account a simultaneous release in most foreign countries, the complete five-day total thus far for ‘Sith’ is $303 million, almost double the $115 million budget.

‘Sith’ Breaks Midnight Records

Midnight screenings of ‘Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith’ – one of which was attended by yours truly – have smashed previous midnight screening records. The films take of $16,500,000 during 2,900 midnight screenings was more than double the previous record holder – $8,000,000 for ‘The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King’.
