Cliffs CD XII Review
Posted by Cliff Coleclough, November 28 11:01 AM

Well at least I know someones reading these reviews - thanks Kip.

02. Timebomb by Old 97's (from Too Far To Care) - Great start to the album, I like the pace of the song. Will the rest of the album deliver....

03. Make My Mind by Screaming Trees (from Dust) - Not a bad song, it was OK - but it seemed to not flow nicely from the first song - things got slowed down too much.

04. Lost In The Plot by The Dears (from No Cities Left) - Cool sounding voice - overtones of The Stampeders. The song itself was alright. The "Our Love" line got way too repeative though

06. Serial Killa by Snoop Dogg (from Doggystyle) - Started off OK, then the singing kicked in and I didn't like it at all - Snoop Dogg likes to wear Pittsburgh Penguin jerseys I just found out. So I can't criticize him too much.

07. Ultimate Warrior - love it

08. Money City Maniacs by Sloan (from Navy Blues) - Just OK. Not terrible but passable.

09. Disappear by Jars of Clay (from The Eleventh Hour) - Likeable. Good style. Catchy.

10. Granny - you tell em!

11. Wiser by The Watchmen (from In the Trees) - Nothing out of the ordinary. Takeable.

12. Celibate by Tribe of Judah (from Exit Elvis) - Not too likeable. The voice sounds stupid. The heavier parts of the song, weren't bad.

14. El Paso by Old 97's (from the King of the Hill soundtrack) - I like it. Not quite the original but it was still quite good. But King of the Hill soundtrack??? Just what the hell else is on this thing???

15. Push Th' Little Daisies by Ween (from Pure Guava) The song starts off bad and then holy crap, if it was at all possible it gets worse and worse. Push The Daisies....ARRRGHHHHHHHH!!! Shut up!!!!!!!

16. HEH!

17. Machismo by Gomez (from Abandoned Shopping Trolley Hotline) - Started good, lots of potential - but then it got very annoying, irritating. Not big into Reggae style music.

18. Free by Train (from Train) - This sound had a country song to it - but I actually didn't mind it. I liked it when it kicks up a notch at the Freed part.

19. Damn Shame (Memphis Mix) by Jay Farrar (from ThirdShiftGrottoSlack) - A very unmemorable song. As always, I listen to the CD three times before making a review. The third time I heard this song - it was as if I heard it for the first time.

21. The Taste of Ink by The Used (from The Used) - OK. Chorus part wasn't bad.

22. Lil' Jack Slade by Dixie Chicks (from Home) - Who doesn't like some good banjo/fiddle action? At least that's what it sounded like to me. I liked it.

24. Unhappy B'Day by Nuno Bettencourt (from Population-1) - WORSE SONG ON ALBUM. Perhaps worse song of any of the 12 CD's I've listened to. This song was beyond annoying, beyond repeative, beyond silly, beyond stupid. Irritating, awful, garbage. I can't stand this song. Give me 60 minutes of that Extreme song over 60 seconds of this. Terrible.

25. Get In Line by Barenaked Ladies (from Disc One) - I liked this song initially, but it's one of those songs that sticks in your head. Like at 2 AM when the damn cat wakes you up and you are trying to fall back asleep and the same words are repeating over and over and over in your head.

26. The Simpsons by Danny Gatton (from 88 Elmira St) - Funny

27. The Devil In the Kitchen by Ashley MacIsaac (from Hi How Are You Today?) - This song was extra bad. Making things even worse, mercifully when you thought it was over, in a trick stolen from the Isley Brothers, the damn song flares up again like a pack of hemorrhoids. It just wouldn't end. Not enjoyable.

I did not like this album. The decent songs were few and far between and of these songs there weren't any I went totally ga-ga for. As for the bad songs there were no shortage of them. The little snippets did help make the album a bit more enjoyable - but where's number 28? I was fully expecting some sort of conclusion to the entire album, but got nothing but some vile song by Ashley MacIssac. I have to give this album a 3.5/10.

Comments
