Cliffs CD X Review
Posted by Cliff Coleclough, November 4 10:52 AM

I recognized all of two artists on this CD; so I don't really know what to expect. Whereas last CD I recognized many and expected too much - this time I don't know what to expect - on to the review:

- Tower Of Power - Diggin on James Brown - Sorry to say it, but I am digging on this song! Very James Brown like in style - most enjoyable as a result. Fun to listen to.

- Galactic - Baker's Dozen - This song blended nicely with the first one. Almost didn't realize it was a different song until the singing stopped and I realized it was an instrumental. Quite enjoyable

- Bonerama - Bap Bap - The direction of this album is quite different than any of the other ones I've heard. A totally different type of music and I am liking it.

- Arturo Sandoval - Ran Kan Kan - A quick shift to a Salsa like sound. But not too drastic of a change that the album has a 180 degree shift focus. A nicely performed song

- Nuclear Whales - Primal Tonic - The songs are blending all together now it seems. This song was a bit boring

- Sonny Rollins -Strode Rode - This song was likeable, but it'd be nothing I'd go download, I mean go to the store and buy. It sounds like every other song I've heard playing in the background while having a nice dinner out with the wife.

- Cannonball - Scotch and Water - More of the same, no complaints.

- Johnny Cash - Cocaine Blues - A fun song. Johnny is great.

- Status Quo - All Stand Up - The extension the singer made on some of the words was rather annoying - the song itself was OK

- White Stripes -Death Letter - The guitar work on this song is amazing. I really enjoyed listening to it.

- Me First - My Boyfriends Back - These guys are the best!

- Polaris - Waiting for October - I loved this song just after listening to it for a few seconds. Extremely enjoyable - neat all around

- Neutral Milk - Holland, 1945 - I really like this song. Excellent chorus/refrain part.

- Rilo Kiley - Always - I was really enjoying this song. The synthesizer was cool. Song had all indications pointing to it being a great instrumental song and then the singing started and then it went south. Song would have been perfect had there been no singing.

- Pulp - Common People - This song has a 1980's alternative scene type of sound to it. I like it.

- Bad Astronaut - Break Your Frame Song was takable - might get tiresome after awhile

- Manic Street - Suicide is Painless - Now this is a remake! I thoroughly enjoyed this song. They added something to this remake - they made a unique sound with it and they did it well. Totally love the song.

- Alcazar - Sexual Guarantee - Way too discoy. Don't get me wrong I like disco - but just not in the fashion that was done in this song

- u-Ziq - Lunatic Harness - Too weird of a song. Too many different sounds. Wasn't that big on it.

Overall, I really liked this album. No songs I truly hated. A few that a liked a bit, but the overwhelming majority I really liked listening too. Many different types of songs on this album - a good mix to say the least. I am not sure if prehaps I would have meshed in songs 1-7 thoroughout the album, so as to not have such a same feel to the start of it. Regardless, a small compliant. I give the album 9/10. By far the best one yet.
