Shatner 'Joe Schmos' Captain Kirk's Hometown

Working along with SpikeTV and the creative team behind 'The Joe Schmo Show', William Shatner has just wrapped filming on a top secret production that saw the creation of the network's unofficial third installment in the reality/comedy series. Debuting on Spike in early 2005 'Invasion Iowa' tells the tale of a fake film crew appearing in the supposed birthplace of Captain Kirk, Shatner's beloved 'Star Trek' character: Riverside, Iowa (pop. 978). Armed with a team of actors portraying filmmakers Shatner and crew created a real life soap opera around the residents of the small town before revealing the truth this week alongside a cheque for $100,000 for the town. "I fell in love with the people of Riverside," Shatner says. "And the hardest part of this whole experience was containing my empathy for the individuals who listened to and identified with the soap opera that we played out in front of them."
