The Daily Grind

Well, that’s it. Back to the office, back to the desk, back to incessant typing and the like. But it’s not so bad, I had a good week, I got to see Vegas, I met a lot of people, and I’ll get to do a lot of writing over the next few weeks based on the things I saw and learned. Plus, while I was gone the Leafs done gone started playing again so life is good.

Today is my second anniversary, for those keeping count. This means a lot of people lose a lot of money on us today. :) For those not in the know, Mar and I were one of those couples not expected to make two years. Most of this arises from the fact that I’m not someone into public displays of affection and people mistook that for — well, I don’t know really. But they didn’t take it for love at first sight I suppose. Guess we showed them. :) And no, no little RJdotcom’s running around quite yet.

So how will we spend our anniversary? Well, Mar decided that it wasn’t worth going out for a nice dinner as the American Idol reunion show and the premier of CSI: Miami are both on tonight, so it would appear we’ll be getting delivery and spending it on the couch. Hehe.. who am I to argue? I think we’ll go out later this week for a nice dinner together.

I guess I’d better get to work, too much to do. I’m thinking of making a switch from Rogers Digital & Cable Internet to Bell Hi-Speed and Express-Vu – any opinions out there, I’d like to know good and bad on both. Post in comments! COMMENTS! WHERE’S MY LOVE, DANGIT!! ;)

Cheers!

  1. Welcome Home Rick!
And HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to you and Mary :)
    -Michelle
P.S. I don’t know for sure, but I heard that Sympatico puts a cap on your downloads per month, so you might want to look into that.

  2. Thanks for the heads-up, I’ll check into that – and thanks for the anniversary wishes.
How are things at the office? I’ve heard good things about some pending releases out of that office, hope things turn around on the stock market. :(
    Cheers,
    -R.

  3. Rick, Sympatico is much more reliable — too bad http://www.eol.ca doesn’t cover your area — they offer hi-speed.
In terms of caps — Rogers will be applying that soon enough to combat movie/music pirates.
Too many bad Rogers stories….and you need stability, no?

  4. EOL does come to this area, I just don’t like having to buy my own modem.
Rogers is stable enoug here, and it’s fast, I just dislike the company and their service levels.

  5. welcome back and happy anniversary!

  6. Yeah, Sympatico charges extra when you exceed 5 Gigs up or 5 Gigs down in a single month. That’s a lot of data though. I’ve got over 2200 mp3s and they total 12GB, so we’re talking about 900 songs downloaded in a single month before you start going into extra charges.
Of course, your world-famous appetite for hard core porn movies will probably push you over the 5 GB threshold.

  7. i’m not sure my unsatiable lust for hard core pornography is quite WORLD famous, perhaps just in the general Caledon-area served by Rogers Cable Internet. After all, I AM sharing this connection. When they remember to bill me. On time. And don’t overcharge for two years. And then not get back to me on owed charges. But still manage to find time to not send me a bill, but send me late charge notices.
I think I need to go view some porn.

    PS.. thanks Laura!

  8. Hi,
Just wanted to let you know that I’ve just switched from Bell to Rogers for hispeed internet. Stayed with Rogers digital cable. They’ve got a bundle for $99 gives us hispeed and all the channels we want. Also I get more than twice the throughput with rogers internet vis a vis sympatico hispeed. DSL is very sensitive to how far you are from the central office. I was only geting about 350-400 throughput on sympatico – now over 900 on rogers. Here’s my tester…
http://www.bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/ so you can check yours on a comparable.

  9. so far so good, will keep u updated.Ordered hi speed, got DSL,they messed up…will inform you on Tue when i will get regular hi speed, bye.
