Struttin’ Blues

Tonight was the first real “get out and play” night for Paul and I at a guitar shop. We have, of course, spent much time in guitar stores but not with the intent to play as much as tonight. The purpose was for Paul to meet up with another gent in hopes of securing a used Fender Robert Cray Standard Stratocaster. My goal for years has been a Telecaster, and my general distaste for Stratocasters has been well known.
Until now.
Cursed Paul has somehow awakened a previously non-present desire for Strats based around two unique offerings in the family. The XII I had already come to terms with liking – a 12-string Strat, what’s not to like for a chord-junkie like me? But with the vast majority of the Telecasters being the sub-par American Deluxe series tonight I found myself grabbing hold of the Highway One series. Awesome. So, I hereby place the following on my wishlist:

Fender Stratocaster Highway One Fender Stratocaster XII Fender Telecaster American Vintage '52

Now all I need to do is actually make an effort to afford one. My beloved Washburn MG-34 is proving itself unable to support my shift from 80’s hair metal to melodic Americana-esque classic rock.

  1. I’ve always wanted something with a maple neck, but Teles are too twangy sounding for my liking and I already have a Strat with rosewood that I’ve modded out quite nicely. Still, I love the look of the Tele you posted. Love the natural wood and the way the fingerboard looks as it ages with use.
Is this going to be a self-indulgent guitar thread where we all post lists of what we own?

  2. YES! Post what you own and what you want to own.

  3. Okay then! Here’s my list:
    What I have:
    – Some crappy $10 acoustic I pulled out of a dumpster in ’93
    – Ibanez V302 12-string acoustic, mfg’d circa 1983
    – Fender MIJ sunburst Fat Strat w/Floyd Rose bridge, 1993 (heavily modified)
    – Garrison AG300CE with quilted top & all blonde wood: top, back, sides. (2004?)
    – Agile AL300 Spalted Maple, 2008 – Best guitar I’ve ever played in my life.
    What I want:
    – Something with P90 pickups, either a goldtop LP-style or LP-JR style (will most likely be another Agile)

  4. I suppose I’ll play as well. My current list is as follows:
    – MIM Squire Stratocaster w/Fender Texas specials
    – MIM Fender Robert Cray Standard
    – MIJ Epiphone Les Paul Standard w/Stan Hinesley’s
    – Takamine EG540 Acoustic
    – Art & Lutherie Folk Acoustic
    What I Want:
    – MIA Highway 1 Texas Telecaster
    – Gibson Les Paul Classic Antique in Vintage Sunburst
    – MIA Martin DC-16gte acoustic

  5. Suppose I should be playing.
    I Have:
    – Washburn MG-34 Electric
    – Garrison AG300CE Black Quilted Ash
    – Ovation Balladeer Sunburst (1968, rough shape)
    I Want:
    – Fender Telecaster (undecided)
    – Fender Highway One Stratocaster
    – Fender Stratocaster XII 12-String
    – Washburn N4 Vintage
    – Rickenbacker 370/12 12-String
    – Gretsch (undecided, leaning on Nashville)
    – 12-String Acoustic – no clue on brand!

  6. Hey Rick, does the Washburn have a floating trem?
    Man, I hate mine.

  7. Washburn has a hole where a trem would go. Please don’t bring that up again, it’s a sore point with me seeing as I’ve spent the past year trying to source a replacement. ;(

  8. The middle one is Toronto Maple Leaf blue! Nice!
