As I see it…

Not sure why I’m going to respond to this, but I’m not quite awake yet this morning and prone to stupid decisions.
The funny thing about politics is that no matter what a party does those who support them will approve and those that were against them from the start will cry bloody murder. So while I can understand Rick’s comments about the country being back on track and John’s continued mockery of anything Harper does, I want to point out a few things that I’ve noticed.
1. The recently released budget, like most decisions out of the government, was politically motivated. As most experts (yes Rick even your conservative loving ones over at the SUN) noted the recent budget was very un-conservative in nature. In fact it was very far away from the campaign promises that Harper made upon election. Now can I blame them for this? The Liberals certainly wouldn’t have done any different and its not like they did anything wrong, but the truth is they have left this country very close to running a deficit for the next few years while gaining the approval of the masses for the sake of winning the next election. Which brings me to point two.
2. When it comes down to it all politicians

  1. Politicians will always skew their efforts towards satisfying those responsible for keeping them employed. No different from you or I.
Why is it worth arguing over? People are indifferent. They decide who they’ll vote for based on conjecture, what they think is true, and a lack of knowledge of the facts. Why was it so easy for me to sway so many of my acquaintances from the Liberal party to Green? Nothing to do with policy and everything to do with “what’s cool”. The facts are as long as our system allows everyone to vote, people are empowered to make them aware. The Green party is an absolute joke and still, 9/100 people will support them. Do you think they’re informed?
You say life goes on as normal; I say life has evolved into catastrophe. It just happened so gradually that the indifferent masses didn’t notice. Do we live in a better world than 50 years ago? A safer world? Do graduates make more money now than 10 or 15 years ago? Has our access to health care improved?
Arguing creates information, indifference creates the mess we’re in.

  2. I can’t argue with anything you said because its all true, but maybe there is very little we can do about it. Remember that every great civilization in the history has fallen. Maybe we are doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past.

  3. We also have to be careful about making assumptions and propogating stereotypes. I’m a Green supporter and I am not un-informed…It just follows my values and beliefs in what’s best. I may disagree vehemently with Conservative Party politics but I won’t take a broad brush and say that every that supports them is ‘this’ or ‘that’. So, in a nutshell, debate is healthy, and that’s what makes me proud to be Canadian (because it’s not like this everywhere else…just look South). But, be cautious of giving a fair shake to those with different opinions.
