Green and Dumb

Would all of those who continue to be angry at my newfound disgust in the Toronto Maple Leafs please put the Kool-Aid down and take a look around you. For those not in the know, the Blow and White are set to announce their signing of Darcy Tucker to a very reasonable $12 million contract over four years, with the final year left as an option to the Leafs. Not bad. Oh, did I forget to mention they gave him a no-trade clause?
Is John Ferguson a tool or a puppet? Hard to say, but what he’s not is a great GM building a winner. Has he signed anyone from last year’s failed-to-make-the-playoffs staff without handing them a no-trade? All of them older and not improving, now all saddled with the Leafs for four-to-five years. Not like it matters, when I’m one of the few to get off the bus and seek out teams that care about their fans and make what can sometimes be tough decisions for team gain it just means more sell-outs and more justification for their actions.
So enjoy your Maple Leafs as they struggle yet again to make the playoffs only to earn a first or second round exit, should they even get there. They’re the same Leafs you’ll have for the next four years. Unless, of course, they trade two of their few prospects to bring Gary Roberts back.
Go Sens Go!

  1. First let me say… any “number” Tucker asks for is a reasonable one :) :) :)
    Second listen up brother/Leaf-basher…
I too was once guilty of the “HOW OLD DO YOU HAVE TO BE TO BE A LEAF” bandwagon as they seem to be famous for getting the older more mature ;) players at trade time.
However, all who had the opportunity to see the 40th Anniversary celebration of the Stanley Cup Leaf Team a few weeks back should have taken note…and please brother feel free to look this up… the average age of the players that evening were between 75-82 making them HOW OLD when they played on a stanley cup winning team???? Well folks, just minus 40!!!
No longer will I make fun of the “mature” player selection process we seem to love ;)
(ok brother, I know you wanna… Knock me down that peg or two)
    GO LEAFS GO

  2. I don’t have the ability to look this up solidly but I would assume the average age of an NHLer in those days was probably mid-to-late 30’s. I bet you’d find there weren’t many 18-25 year olds with any teams.
All Cup winners in our lifetime have won with a few energy-filled rookies, a few grizzled leadership-filled veterans, and a bunch of skilled players in between. The Leafs have few good rookies, a ton of grizzled veterans, and very little skill.
But on the bright side they might get Joseph. :P

  3. WOW!!! A witty yet negative response within 3 minutes of original posting??!! GO BROTHER!!!
