  1. Can’t we just accept the fact that there are better teams than us and let it go?

  2. I wish it was that simple Cliff, but as Canadians we can’t seem to accept the fact that some other country can play hockey better than us. We would be more willing to admit that this was caused by a voodoo curse than we were actually beat by a team with more talent.
The thing that interests me more now is whether Hockey Canada will look to this as a rebuilding point and learn from the mistakes or if in 2010 we will see another tired, slow team.

  3. This OUR game crap annoys me. We barely won in 1972. We lost the Challenge Cup in 1979. We lost the Canada Cup in 1981. We lost the World Cup in 1996. We lost in 1998 at the Olympics. The World Juniors we win some, but not all. Face it – narrowminded simpleton people have been brainwashed buy idiots like Don Cherry – thinking it is our game.
I think it’s a good thing – it’s nice to see the game become a much better level Internationally.

  4. Interesting. I like the stuff I hear like “the world has caught up” every time Canada loses a major event. Trust me, we are still FAR AHEAD of the pack. Yes, they are closing, but these small blips in the radar are not cause for us to reinvent everything we do.
Juniors win most years, women always win, and the men win at least half the tournaments we’re in! In one-game competitions (i.e. sudden-death games – quarter/semis/finals) it’s probable (even likely) that we will lose a certain number of times. Bad bounces, penalties, etc. Look, Russia scored a goal with a few minutes left then potted a cheesy goal when we were full-out to score to make the score look bad (2-0). Relax.
Any country in the world would take our education and funding programs for hockey. We are the model hockey country. We are the country every other country gets doube-psyched to play.
No need to reinvent the wheel or have some huge post-mortem on what went wrong. We came, lost, and have gone home. No biggie.

  5. OMG WTF LOL BBQ WE TEH LOST! EVERYBODY PANIC!
It’s a game. Someone else won. The world is not ending, but people are acting as though it is. The last time I saw people this outraged was when Reuben won Idol, or maybe when Ross and Rachael broke up.
Canada will play again. And win. Maybe not right away, but eventually it’ll happen. The sky is not falling.
