The outpouring of affection for Pope John Paul II, who died this past April, will continue into two projects on his life being developed by ABC and CBS. CBS had set to work on a miniseries almost immediately following his passing, set to follow the entire life of the Pope from his seminary training in Nazi-occupied Poland straight through his 26 years as the head of the Roman Catholic Church. ABC has now announced a project of their own, complete with a script by Michael Hirst and executive production by the team from CBS’ prior ‘Jesus’ project – Lorenzo Minoli and Judd Parkin. Meanwhile, the President of the company that had produced ‘Jesus’ – Ettore Bernabei – will be in charge of CBS’ program.
