In a strange bit of news two struggling TV networks have acquired the syndication rights to the two most popular reality shows – ‘Survivor’ and ‘The Amazing Race’. It is highly uncommon for a reality show to enter syndication, with the majority of reality repeats occurring on the Game Show Network. It is GSN that has snagged the rights to all seven seasons of ‘The Amazing Race’, where it will find a place alongside some niche reality shows (‘The Mole’, ‘Dog Eat Dog’) and game shows. OLN (Outdoor Life Network) will air all 10 seasons of ‘Survivor’, even though the new Fox Reality Channel had been rumoured to be buying the rights to the reality powerhouse. It is expected the decision to award the show to OLN may have been partially due to OLN’s previous airing of Burnett’s ‘Eco-Challenge’ series’. Which reminds me – where is ‘Eco-Challenge’ anyways? Bring it back!
