Motley Crue Sues NBC Over Ban

A New Year’s Eve F-word on NBC’s ‘The Tonight Show’ resulted in the network banning Motley Crue from their airwaves, and now the metal band is going to court to get that overturned. In a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles on Tuesday the band argues that NBC has overreacted due to the current broadcast code climate, and that to ban them is a violation of the constitution. They are seeking unspecified damages based on the lost exposure for their recent compilation album, ‘Red, White, and Crue’. “We meant no harm, but it feels that we’re being singled out unfairly. This is a discrimination issue, pure and simple,” bass player Nikki Sixx told The New York Times. “All we’ve ever asked is to be treated like everybody else, which is why we’re taking this action.” The band argues that appearances on ‘Last Call with Carson Daly’ and ‘Late Night with Conan O’Brien’ were cancelled after the F-word, and NBC has not taken similar action against previous F-bomb droppers on their network, including U2’s Bono. One interesting sidenote is the appearance of a summer reality series on NBC titled ‘Tommy Lee Goes to College’, featuring the Crue drummer attending the University of Nebraska.
