It took almost four years and seven incarnations, but CBS’ ‘The Amazing Race’ is finally a bonafide hit. The season finale on Tuesday brought in over 16,000,000 viewers, a new record for the show. The episode ended with Uchenna and Joyce Agu barely defeating Rob Mariano and Amber Brkich to take home the $1,000,000 prize. The couple had almost lost at the finish line when they were found begging for the money to pay off their cab driver while “Romber” came ever closer. Race rules forbid illegal activities, and not paying a cab fare would have been a violation of this rule. Unfortunately for CBS, their new hit still came in second in their timeslot to Fox’s breakout hit with the plum post-‘American Idol’ timeslot, ‘House’. The first hour of ‘Race’ brought home 14,000,000 viewers compared to ‘House’ with 17,000,000. The second hour of ‘Race’ won the 10PM timeslot with the full 16,000,000 viewers.
