Fox Threatens ABC with ‘Idol’ Lawsuit

Things are getting a little hot around May sweeps. One week tonight marks the airing of the “Fallen Idol” special edition of ‘ABC Primetime Live’ – a 60-minute expose on Fox’s ‘American Idol’ and, presumably, the rumours that Paula Abdul has made it a habit to sleep with contestants. Matt Drudge has become the first to make note that “ABC has been warned in writing it could face legal fallout.. Fox owner Rupert Murdoch has informed executives that it appears ABC is attempting to maliciously ‘destroy’ the nation’s most-watched series as it heads into the final weeks.” Fox has argued that ABC’s interviews with eliminated contestants are not to be taken as fact, as these non-winners (ie. losers) are likely to blame manipulation by a judge on their casting off. Furthermore, lawyers for Paula Abdul have also issued a threatening letter promising a lawsuit if ABC doesn’t “back off unsubstantiated allegations against Abdul.”
