Misfortune

Argh.. this ain’t good. I just don’t see how you get clipped by the very plane you jumped out of. Mind you, I’ve never skydove so I’m not sure the physics of it all. Do you get pulled back up briefly before you begin your descent?
Skydiver hits a plane and dies
DELAND, Florida (AP) — A skydiver lost both his legs when he struck the wing of a plane as he came down and later died from his injuries, officials said.
Cinematographer Albert “Gus” Wing III had already opened his parachute when he hit the plane that he had jumped from Saturday morning over an airport in DeLand, central Florida, police said. His legs were severed at the knees.

  1. i was under the impression that during his descent, he was hit by a different plane that was flying at a lower altitude than the one he had jumped out of.

  2. My mistake. It was the one he jumped from.
But it hit at about 600 feet? That’s really low. I wonder if the plane was approaching to land and the pilot was paying attention to the ground, not looking up.
    Pretty bad way to go.
