Passengers on Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Dawn got a harsh ride at sea this weekend when a stated 70-foot wave hit the ship, sending it and its contents flying. En route to New York City from the Bahamas the crew had seen a large storm and altered the ship’s path to move around the growing storm. With regular waves reaching 25-feet it is uncommon, but not impossible, for a 50-foot wave to make an appearance. Hit at the wrong time, the ship hit an unlikely 70-foot wave based on the height of the wave compared to the low-point of the ship. The ensuing damage saw only four injured passengers, with many more shaken up, and 60 cabins flooded. And while the staff at NCL and the Coast Guard have indicated that the crew of the Norwegian Dawn had behaved perfectly in their efforts during this unexpected wave, many are looking to pin blame, likely in hopes of earning a quick buck. That’s where Donald Trump enters the picture.
The New York Post has reported that the Norwegian Dawn was rushing to arrive in New York City five hours earlier than normal in order to make a scheduled paid appearance on the next installment of ‘The Apprentice’. As expected, NCL has denied the captain was under any orders or pressure to return early.
