NBC Kills ‘Third Watch’

After six years on life support NBC has finally pulled the plug on John Wells’ police/fire/ambulance drama, ‘Third Watch’. With a fairly rabid cult following the show had managed to escape cancellation in all prior summers, although they had never received an early pick-up. Air Force vet and former Chicago police officer Edward Allen Bernero lamented NBC’s treatment of the show late last week: “We’ve never ended a year knowing we were back. They usually let us know the day before the (advertiser announcements) in May. Last year, they picked up every single drama except us. They went through their pilots. We’re always the show that they say, ‘Let’s see if we get anything better.’ It’s insulting. Sometimes it hurts. It’s a weird thing.” The show has always ended their seasons on a major cliffhanger in hopes NBC would be prompted to return it due to viewer demand, and it is not yet known if a cliffhanger finale has already been taped for this season. Bernero went on to note that part of their problem may have been an inability for their audience to find the show, with no fewer than six timeslot changes in the past.
