Federal Espresso

I had a chance to take my first trip to Collingwood in a long, long time yesterday. If I recall it’s my first trip since “the great slide ride” incident that resulted in this three inch scar on my thumb. My trip was one with purpose – to try out an independent cafe called Espresso Post – website coming soon, but to be made available at www.espressopost.com. My reasons for driving 90 minutes to try a coffee are my own for now – those answers will arrive eventually.
Before anything else I have to note this was the best commercially prepared coffee I’ve had yet, with my experience thus far being limited to most major chains. And at fear of sounding like an elitist I should note there is only one specialty coffee chain in Canada, Starbucks. And while I do enjoy Starbucks, I now know the difference preparation by hand makes, from people trained in doing it. In fact, Mark at Espresso Post (the owner) had just recently scored third in the regional barista championships here in Toronto. I had a perfect latte to start, and took an americano to go. It was interesting because they don’t actually carry pots of coffee there – they offer americanos in place of coffees, which for those unaware of coffee talk, is a shot or two of espresso topped up with hot water. It resembles coffee, but much richer and more flavourful.
Long story short? If you’re near Collingwood take the trip – 139 Hurontario Street, right on the strip downtown. Worth the drive for sure.
Cheers!
