Alex has made yet another post in regards to the eventual destruction of Earth at the hands of robots. If I didn’t know him better I’d think he was crazy.. well, wait a minute..
Anyways, I digress, he has made a post titled “A.I.: Robotic Nation Cometh…” where he directly refers a chat we’ve had in the past during his passionate AI Yahoo Messenger discussions with me when he says “some of us will respond with, “Who cares, I won’t be around.” And this is the great flaw of the human species. We re-act, rather than pro-act. And deep inside, we are selfish. While some of us (futurists) are able to forecast and be concerned about such matters (I am one of them), few of us act on these suggestions.”.
Which makes me wonder how many of you side with Alex in believing that, in fact, Maximum Overdrive was a documentary? That toasters will toast US, and our televisions will watch US? Further to that, how many are like me in thinking that even if, by some odd lack of foresight at some point, machines DID manage to take over the world, that we’ll be long dead and really shouldn’t waste our Earthly brain cycles worrying about it?
Cheers!
