Tonight marks the performance of the final five in NBC’s Last Comic Standing at the Paris Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, although we won’t be seeing it until Tuesday. No surprise at all that Geoff was picked last night, but I was surprised to find Dat as his selected opposition by the retired house guests. I half figured Tess was going up against him but was quickly proven wrong.
So props where they’re due – unlike last week’s little catastrophe, Dat actually was the funnier man this week. I was impressed he came back with a solid set, and it proves there may be something to the constant whining about the comics being rusty from not performing. Which means my final two from the audition stages (Ralphie May and Dat Phan) have the edge as their other three haven’t performed in competition yet (Cory had her Carson Daly performance, and it looked pretty miserable).
Any Vegas readers planning to attend tonight? I’d love to hear how it goes. Here’s how I see it going:
1. Ralphie May: He’s simply the funniest there, and people are drawn to him pretty easily. He’s been the first pick since day one.
2. Dat Phan: I have a feeling we haven’t seen his best stuff yet. He’s too smart to waste it on the undercards.
3. Tess Drake: I haven’t seen any reason to expect that she’s funny yet, but she seems to be pretty confident. Benefit of a doubt.
4. Cory Kahaney: Because she stinks, but she’s not Vos.
5. Rich Vos: For all his grandstanding and blathering I think he’ll be, unconditionally, the least funny comedian up there.
