Everybody Loves Promo! Seriously, man, never quit the Monday Mission or I think I’ll lose half my readership.
1. Have you ever been in a situation where you were worried sick about something/someone and your mind played out horrible outcomes? What was the situation and what did your imagination come up with? How did it all turn out?
I can’t really nail down one situation in my mind. I remember being on that cruise with Craig, Matthew, and Jonathan and we lose Jonathan in St. Thomas. He’d apparently told us he was going to get something and nobody heard, but the point being that last tender to the ship was about to arrive and only 3/4 of us were in line. So at some point we just decide he’s either gone back on the ship without us or he’s going to miss it and we’re just going back on. We’re all a bit worried wondering which of the two it is, and we didn’t really want him to be stranded in the Virgin Islands. He ended up showing up in line to rip us one for “leaving without him” (which we hadn’t done yet) and making this rather goofy looking physical threat to his twin brother, prompting Craig and I to almost hit the ground laughing. So the story ends nicely.
2. Are there any superstitions that you believe in, or just do out of habit? Do you feel like it makes a difference?
Not anymore, really. I’ve done them all in the past – no stepping on cracks, eat breakfast the same way every time, and I used to always tuck my baseball jersey in on the left side of my shorts. With the quality of my hitting this year it just might be time to bring that tradition back in. (Note: a high batting average doesn’t indicate good hits)
3. Spiders, mice, insects, blood, being home alone at night…some folks I know told me that those things really scare them. What frightens you?
Spiders, definitely. I’ve gotten over just about everything else at this point. I think the only thing that scares me now is the thought of losing family or friends, that kind of non-physical threat.
4. Has there ever been a time where you were too proud to ask for help? What was the situation, and did you ever finally ask?
Not really, no. I don’t see any harm in failure or inability, none of us know everything and we all have skills that can help others. I’m sure if I ever got into a situation where I needed to be bailed out on a financial level I could still ask for help, but it would be very difficult to swallow the pride.
5. Have you ever had, or do you have In-Laws (or the non-marriage equivalent) that you just don’t like or do things that drive you insane? What are some of the things they’ve done that almost drove you over the edge?
Hahaha.. this question is custom built to get me in trouble. “The wedding” was a culmination of a few years of battles between myself and some members of Mary’s direct family, and it was somewhat unfortunate at the time. Subsequently, things weren’t all rainbows and lollipops for a while between myself and that side. I’m happy to say that, at least to my mind, all is in the past and I actually quite enjoy spending time with everyone on Mary’s side now. I don’t see them too often, but they’re great people and I enjoy the time I do spend. (Now you can tell everyone I said nice things, Stacey).
6. It has been said that you can tell how a man will treat his wife/girlfriend by watching how he treats his mother. Do you think that is true?
Almost 100%, yeah. People definitely learn gender issues through parenting, I have no doubt about that. A man’s gotta love his momma. ;)
7. Do you know any men that are just a little too close to their mothers? You know the kind, they won’t make a decision on their own, can’t do their own laundry and so on? How did that relationship work out for you? Any stories to tell?
Here’s another answer Stacey can share with the family – Mike. :) Hahaha.. but in all seriousness, all my friends and family I can think of work with a certain degree of independence. I think beyond the age of 25 you should be responsible for buying your own food and doing your own laundry regardless of where you may happen to live, but at age 29 I can certainly share that I miss the days when I could put dirty clothes in the magical white bin, only to find it returned cleaned and folded on my bed mere days/hours later. And I’ve never quite got over the fact that my new fridge isn’t self-replenishing like the one at Mom’s house was. :/
Cheers!
