I have to say something. I know if given the time it would be far more poetic, but I’m a bit strapped for time this week and I’ll make it short and sweet.
What happened to the driving community? I swear, out of nowhere, people suddenly have lost all strands of common sense behind the wheel of a car. Just Friday, on my way home from work, any number of attempts to wreck my Sunfire came about. Backing on to a four lane throughway NOT from a driveway, but from another street which I would assume he had suddenly decided he didn’t want to turn on. Turning into my lane from a two lane turn, effectively cutting me off and forcing me into the third lane reserved for those turning from the opposite side of the road. Countless numbers of people under the assumption that weaving during a traffic jam may get them somewhere quicker. And this is not uncommon. One day.
I don’t really know how to explain it. Perhaps it’s just a general level of impatience we can blame on television like we do everything else. All I know is the police officers I see don’t do a thing about it. They can feel free to pull me over for going 70 km/h in a 60 km/h zone, but they do nothing about these. Lord knows me going 10 or 20 over safely in the middle lane is causing all sorts of problems. In fact, my completely excessive speeds probably sparks others to do these things by osmosis.
I only wish that perhaps we can see people start to shape up behind the wheel of a car. However, I suppose as long as the police have determined that going 10 or 20 over is a larger crime, they may all go unpunished.
