All signs pointed to a cancellation for ABC’s John Stamos sitcom, ‘Jake in Progress’. Higher ratings had felled other shows, and in advance of the expected cancellation, word has come that Stamos had agreed to take over Noah Wyle’s shoes as celebrity doc on NBC’s ‘ER’. Of course, ABC shocked Stamos, NBC, and fans alike with a ‘Jake’ pickup for 2005/06. Stamos told TV Guide’s Michael Ausiello “I’ve been friends with [ER exec producer] John Wells a long time, but my first committment is to ‘Jake in Progress’.” Wells has begun the search for another celebrity fill-in.
