Kip and I go way, WAY back. I moved in Grade 2 and therefore had to start at a new school in Grade 3. During my first week
in this new class I knew just one guy from hockey and really felt like an outcast. The teacher put everyone's names on the
board one day for some unknown reason and I saw the name "Kip", which I felt was strange. So I asked the only guy I knew
who Kip was and he pointed at him. I went up and said "your name is weird" and he noted that he was only one of two people
in the world with the name - the other Kip raced motorcycles on TV. We discovered we lived about a block from each other and
made plans to meet up that night after school. Sure enough, I dropped my bag off at home and walked up the street where I
found Kip sitting outside his house, sitting on the driveway, drawing a picture of a telephone. Short story long, we ended
up becoming great friends through public school and through much of high school, lost touch for a number of years, and then
caught back up about two years ago. He has the most amazing parents you could imagine, they're a ton of fun, and his wife
Shazia is one of the most genuinely nice people you'll probably ever meet.
Probably my favourite Kip memory would have to be with Brent years ago in the
Promenade Mall in Thornhill where he bought a copy of the Weekly World News and ran up and down the escalators outside the
food court screaming as loud as he could that the Loch Ness Monster had been found while waving the paper around. He did
this immediately following the three of us keeping SmithBooks open late while we attempted to finish finding Waldo in their
books, and while I was attempting to order a Pork Milkshake at Baskin-Robbins as their ad insisted "any flavour". So any
time y'all think I'M weird, I come by it honestly. :)
Kip's been a friend so long he's had THREE Friends pages - check out 2002 and 2003!
