25,000 Petition ABC’s ‘9/11’; Edits Made The controversy surrounding Sunday and Monday’s two-part mini-series The Path to 9/11 on ABC continues to rage on with high powered executives and politicians joining the average person in petitioning ABC to repair factual inaccuracies or fail to air the series. The Center for American Progress Action Fund has secured 25,000 signatures focusing on specific historical alterations, including a scene in which the NSA refuses to allow the CIA to follow-through on kill actions on Osama bin Laden. One former US counterterrorism head, Richard Clarke, has labeled the show “utterly invented”, “deeply flawed”, and “180 degrees from what happened.” A Clinton Foundation statement notes "it is despicable that ABC/Disney would insist on airing a fictional version of what is a serious and emotional event for our country. No reputable organization should dramatize 9/11 for a profit at the expense of the truth." Star Donnie Wahlberg, however, felt the fuss had come about for different reasons. "There's a stink being made because certain people aren’t happy with the way they're portrayed, but the reality is that in most cases, the producers took a gentle hand (and) were very careful to not make it look one-sided...

Discovery Salutes Steve Irwin After his death during filming for their Animal Planet network the Discovery Channel has announced a series of initiatives meant to offer tribute to the memory of their most beloved celebrities, Steve “The Crocodile Hunter” Irwin. Irwin, 44, died on Monday after being stabbed in the chest by a stingray during filming in Australia for his hit Animal Planet show. Discovery quickly announced a garden at their headquarters would be renamed in his honor, and funds would quickly be established in his name to support wildlife conservation as well as provide an education for his two children, Bindi and Bob. The Animal Planet network also aired a tribute to Irwin on Tuesday, and have begun work on a marathon that will air at a later date. HBO Brings Back ‘Comic Relief’ HBO has announced they’ll be bringing back their once-popular Comic Relief telethon shows after an eight-year absence, first looking to provide well-needed assistance to the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
Trump to Kepcher: “You’re fired!” Carolyn Kepcher, the 36-year-old blonde sidekick to Donald Trump on his popular NBC reality show The Apprentice, has been fired by “The Donald”, reportedly for becoming a “prima donna” and neglecting her duties with the Trump Organization. Kepcher had been the COO and general manager for two Trump golf courses in New York and New Jersey. A story in the New York Post placed a source as noting "being on The Apprentice went to her head. She was no longer focused on business. She was giving speeches for $25,000 and doing endorsements. When Trump tried to reach her recently, she was off on a trip to make a speech. Another time, while giving a tour of the pro shop at the Briarcliff club, she didn’t seem to know the prices on any of the merchandise.” A Trump spokesperson confirmed to CNN she no longer worked for Trump, but failed to expand. With the sixth season of the show already completed it was released that an unidentified game twist had already rendered Kepcher’s role obsolete on the show, with rumours that she would be replaced by Trump offspring, Ivanka Trump. The Post source finished by noting...

Bush Flushed on CNN CNN was left with a real-life Naked Gun last night when a George Bush press conference was interrupted when an accidentally live mic played a bathroom visit and conversation over the President’s New Orleans-themed speech. CNN Live From… anchor Kyra Phillips went live from the local facilities, complete with an unflattering discussion regarding her sister-in-law, zipper noises, and even a toilet flush before she was finally made aware of the circumstances by a CNN staffer. Repercussions are not expected, although the network did apologize to both their viewers and the President for the interruption. Interested parties are welcome to view the incident here. NBC Apologizes for Crash Skit NBC has issued a corporate apology for a pre-taped Emmy skit that saw host Conan O’Brien crash a plane on the island featured on ABC’s Lost. While obviously a spoof of the popular show, the bit had unfortunately aired only hours after a Lexington, Kentucky plane crash claimed the lives of 49 people. The decision not to pull the segment raised the ire of Lexington’s NBC affiliate, WLEX-TV, who claimed to receive a significant number of complaints. "It was a live telecast, we were completely helpless," station manager...

Emmy Winners Revealed Last night saw the dispersal of the 58th annual Emmy Awards, and new voting rules meant more than a couple surprises – pleasant and otherwise – took centre stage. The fifth day of FOX’s 24 was the big winner having now gone from near cancellation after season one to bonafide award winner, taking home the statuette for top Drama Series and Drama Actor. Another show riding the cusp of ratings popularity – NBC’s The Office - was the surprise winner of best Comedy Series. Still, the many critically-acclaimed shocking wins were matched by head-scratchers such as Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Megan Mullally both winning acting honours. The best news for Emmy organizers came in the word that ratings dropped only 12%, a better than expected result for a show that had suffered in recent years, and been banished to the end of August on the nation’s fourth rated network. The big prize winners were: Drama Series: 24 Comedy Series: The Office Actor, Drama Series: Kiefer Sutherland, 24 Actress, Drama Series: Mariska Hargitay, Law & Order: SVU Actor, Comedy Series: Tony Shalhoub, Monk Actress, Comedy Series: Julia Louis-Dreyfus, The New Adventures of Old Christine Reality – Competition Program: The...

CBS Announces 13th ‘Survivor’ Cast As reported earlier CBS has gone controversial for the cast and theme of their 13th edition of Survivor by dividing tribes along racial lines. Survivor: Cook Islands will premiere Thursday, September 14th with four teams of five divided equally amongst African-American, Asian-American, Caucasian, and Hispanic ethnic backgrounds in a twist that is unsurprisingly making for heated discussion. "I think at first glance, when you just hear about it, it could sound like a stunt, especially with the way reality has gone," host Jeff Probst told The Early Show host Harry Smith during the cast unveiling. "But that's not what we're doing here. The idea for this actually came from the criticism that Survivor is not ethnically diverse enough. ... We said, 'Let's turn that criticism into creative for the show, and I think it fits in perfectly with what Survivor does. It's a social experiment, and this adds another layer to the experiment." One element returning will be Exile Island, the successful change-up from the 12th season that finds at least one castaway sent to live alone during every episode where they have the chance to dig up an Immunity Idol. The 20 castaways are:...

’4400’ To Turn Four The USA Network has announced they have ordered a fourth season of their hit dramatic series, The 4400. 13-episodes will be filmed early next year in Vancouver and premiere next summer. Sci Fi Shuts the ‘Stargate’ The longest running science fiction show in televised history, Stargate SG-1, will complete its run at the end of the current season, Sci Fi Network has announced. The show will have aired 10 seasons in total split between Showtime and Sci Fi, who bought the series in 2002. They had just finished filming a highly-publicized 200th episode themed after the classic film, The Wizard of Oz. Mark Stern, the executive vice president of original programming for the network, noted the cancellation "was not a ratings-driven decision.. we're actually going out on a high note,” although it was known viewership was down near 20% since the launch of last year’s ninth season. Stern further noted that enough notice was given to the producers to ensure the series is brought to a proper conclusion, and that some cast members would jump the gate to star on sister show, Stargate Atlantis. Furthermore, in interviews with TV Guide, executive producer Brad Wright indicated that...

’Survivor’ Splitting Tribes Controversially? Warning: This story may contain spoilers. Rumours abound that CBS may be taking a controversial route with the upcoming Survivor: Cook Islands series, set to premiere September 14th. Internet spoilers, always heavy for the grandfather of network reality shows, are indicating the series will once again launch with four tribes, as they did for the previous series. However, rumours abound that the tribes will not be divided based on gender and age, but on racial profiles. Tips sent to two separate Survivor spoiling websites have indicated tribes will be “divided up into 4 groups by race, 5 white, 5 black, 5 hispanic, and 5 asian.” A reveal of castaways is expected soon, which will likely confirm or deny the possibility of this rumour being true. HBO, ‘Simpsons’ Big Emmy Winners The Creative Arts Emmy Awards were handed out in a Saturday ceremony and the big news was the incredible 17 statuettes making their way to HBO. The miniseries Elizabeth I was the big winner hauling home five Emmy Awards, with four each going to Rome and Baghdad ER.
