ESPN Announces 'Monday Night Football' Team

When ESPN snatches 'Monday Night Football' in 2006 it will be with at least one familiar face in the announce booth - Al Michaels. Michaels will be paired with football legend Joe Theismann after NBC announced they would retain John Madden for their Sunday broadcasts. Michelle Tafoya will stay on as the sideline reporter.

'Survivor: Guatemala' Features Famous Faces

Latch up the motorcycles before somebody jumps the shark - CBS' reality grandfather 'Survivor' is casting some famous faces in the latest season, 'Survivor: Guatemala'. Confirmation has come via the Detroit Free Press that former NFL quarterback Gary Hogeboom will be one of the contestants when the new show premieres this fall. More distressing to some fans is the news that former contestants are arriving on the scene, although their precise role is undetermined. Online spoilers are indicating some involvement in the show by 'Survivor: Palau' contestants Bobby Jon Drinkard and Stephanie LaGrossa, as well as 'Survivor: Australia' catastrophe Mike Skupin. All three, it can be said, lost their chances at $1,000,000 by no fault of their own with Drinkard and LaGrossa stuck on a poor team, and Skupin having been eliminated after falling in a live fire pit. A second chance team is a distinct possibility.

NBC Cancels 'I'm A Celebrity..'

NBC's 'American Idol'esque 'I'm A Celebrity But I Want To Be A Pop Star' competition program has met the axe before it had a shot to air. Citing a disagreement over production costs the network has killed the summer program they had already begun promoting.

Sidney Bristow Pregnant on 'Alias'

'Alias' fans have known Jennifer Garner is pregnant in real life, and have since been wondering how it would play out on her popular ABC drama. Turns out creator JJ Abrams has reversed his original decision and written the baby into the next season. Spoiler-ish items below...

Bristow's baby will be fathered by Agent Vaughn (whatever his real name is...), and her sister Nadia has been completely written out of the show. In her place has been cast a new agent played by Rachel Nichols, formerly of 'The Inside'. Finally, two main cast members from last season will turn to the dark side of the law, and at least one is probably highly unexpected.

'Big Brother 6' Contestant Has a Record

It took longer than I thought it would for news of an arrest to fly out from one of CBS' 'Big Brother 6' contestants. 25-year-old Janelle Pierzina, a Las Vegas cocktail waitress, was charged in December of 2001 with theft from Macy's, but failed to appear at three separate court dates before finally pleading guilty only days before her time on the show and paying a $982 fine. Her record also shows a drunk driving arrest - complete with mugshot - and can be read over at The Smoking Gun.

'Las Vegas', 'Crossing Jordon' Cross Once Again

NBC has announced that the popular cross-over episodes of 'Las Vegas' and 'Crossing Jordan' last fall will see the same experiment tried again. A Montecito showgirl will wind up in a Boston morgue, leading Danny McCoy (Josh Duhamel of 'Las Vegas') to Boston to help Dr Jordan Cavanaugh (Jill Hennessy of 'Crossing Jordan'), and Detective Woody Hoyt (Jerry O'Connell of 'Jordan') over to Vegas to assist Sam Marquez (Vanessa Marcil of 'Vegas').

Tom Wopat to Guest on 'Smallville'

It's like the WB has been reading my diary. The little network that could has announced that Luke Duke will be joining Bo Duke on Bo Duke's WB drama, 'Smallville'. While a date wasn't announced, Tom Wopat's guest turn as a childhood friend of John Schneider will last only one episode.

Mikalah Gordon Guests on 'Living With Fran'

Chalk this one up as no surprise whatsoever. Fran Drescher has hired her doppelganger - 'American Idol' wannabe Mikalah Gordon - to guest star on the season premiere of her new WB sitcom 'Living With Fran'. The 17-year-old will portray "Cousin Brianna", and her guest starring turn will indeed feature singing. Can't hardly wait.

'The Apprentice' Pin-Up Calendar En Route

12 of the unsuccessful women from NBC's 'The Apprentice' are putting together a charity pin-up calendar for Dress for Success. The 12 will spoof the tasks that got them fired in the calendar, but will be unable to reference the show that made them famous after Mark Burnett refused to approve the project.

The Dress for Success website states "The mission of Dress for Success is to advance low-income women's economic and social development and to encourage self-sufficiency through career development and employment retention. Dress for Success responds to the needs of our communities by providing programs that help economically disadvantaged women acquire jobs, retain their new positions and succeed in the mainstream workplace."

James Marsters Joins 'Smallville'

It's not a 'Spike' movie, but it'll have to do for now. 'Buffy' fans rejoice as James Marsters has joined the cast of The WB's 'Smallville' for a scheduled six-run story arc as Professor Milton Fine. Superman afficianados will recognize Fine as the alter-ego of Brainiac, one of the Man of Steel's greatest villains.

NBC Takes a Chance on 'Daniel'

The edgy drama pilot for 'The Book of Daniel' was left on NBC's fall schedule, a sign amongst some that the network wasn't ready to take the risk required on the show. However, the struggling net has announced the show will find a place as the first mid-season replacement with NBC Entertainment President Kevin Reilly describing the show as "challenging" and "out-of-the-box". Created by Jack Kenny ('Titus') the show stars Aidan Quinn as an Episcopalian minister with a series of family problems - not the least of which is an addiction to painkillers - as he is guided through his life by "a hip, modern Jesus" portrayed by Garret Dillahunt. Also starring are Ellen Burstyn, Susanna Thompson and Dylan Baker.

'The Amazing Race 8' North America Only?

Rumours are surfacing that the family-of-four eight installment of CBS' 'The Amazing Race' won't leave North America, forgoing the regular world-travel element of the show. With increased popularity comes increased scrutiny by a larger fanbase (just ask Mark Burnett), and thus sightings of 'TAR' pit stops have begun to surface online at a steady pace since the apparent start on July 7th in New York City. Spoilers below the drop down.

Outside of the sighting at a sporting goods store in NYC, teams were later seen as they re-enacted George Washington's crossing of the Delaware River (as well as a related traffic stop reported on the radio). The show appears to have also hit the Vietnam Memorial in the District of Columbia and the US Space & Rocket Center in South Carolina. This has fueled rumours that the family-based show will see an educational theme this next season as families tour North America and learn along the way.

Emmy Nominations Announced

The 2005 Emmy Awards have been announced, and the results are an odd combination of those that deserve it and those that don't. Topping the list with 15 nominations were ABC's new 'Desperate Housewives' - nominated in the comedy categories rather than drama - and NBC's 'Will & Grace'. The sheer amount of nominations for 'Will & Grace' is odd as even the most ardent fan would acknowledge the quality of the show, nearly cancelled this season, is much less than what it once was. However, critically-acclaimed 'Lost' also found itself with Supporting Actor nominations for Naveen Andrews and Terry O'Quinn, and a nomination for Best Drama.

Fox Announces a Fall Season Jumpstart

The failing Fox network is embarking on a new strategy for the 2005 fall season - launching their TV series' early. As owners of the broadcast rights to the MLB playoffs the network has typically waited for the conclusion of the playoffs to debut their new shows, but a particularly harsh fall last year seems to have changed things. Fox Entertainment President Peter Ligouri spun it a slightly different way: "We have an incredible slate this season, and we're getting out of the gate early with our new series and returning favorites in order to create maximum buzz among viewers." The launch will see most shows arrive prior to the start of Nielsen's fall season on September 19th. The new shows, with their new launch dates, can be found below the drop down:

Their new album is expected to receive a fall release.

ABC to Launch 'Hooking Up' Dating Series

The world of internet dating is going under the microscope when ABC launches 'Hooking Up' this Thursday. The network is describing it as a documentary, rather than a reality show, in hopes of elevating expectations above those of most dating reality programs. The show will last only five short episodes, and will wittle down 1,100 hours of footage from the past 14 months to get those shows.

'The Bachelor' To Film in France

ABC is taking a page out of Joe Millionaire's book and whisking their women off to Paris. ABC noted the show's change of locale will provide "numerous seductive possibilities with vast scenic panoramas, intimate bistros and mysteries lurking around every corner and side street." The show itself doesn't look to change with host Chris Harrison guiding 25 lovelorn ladies through a series of mass dates en route to true love.
