Jayhawks News

Fans of alternative country music might personally wet themselves over these two little nuggets:

* With The Jayhawks taking a short break to work on other projects it has been revealed what one of those projects will be. Band leader Gary Louris will be reteaming with original 'Hawk Mark Olson for a two-man acoustic tour in the spring of 2005. Dates and details are not yet known, but Toronto is a favourite destination of Gary Louris and will almost assuredly be on the sched.

* Another break project is a new Golden Smog album, the first since 1998's 'Weird Tales'. The main stalwarts will return including Jeff Tweedy (Wilco), Gary Louris (The Jayhawks), and Marc Perlman (The Jayhawks).

'What Not To Wear' Goes To $50,000

Fans of TLC's reality programs will no doubt find interest in this - 'What Not To Wear' will be sending one lucky participant to Paris to spend $50,000 - a heavy increase from the usualy $5,000. A December 5th episode subtitled 'Dream Wardrobe' will send music industry worker Lisa Smith Craig to Paris alongside Stacy London and Clinton Kelly to spend $50,000 towards upgrading her wardrobe.

'Another Brick in the Wall' Kids Sue for Royalties

A large portion of the London school children who performed secretly on Pink Floyd's 1979 song 'Another Brick in the Wall' are suing for royalties. 23 teenagers from Islington Green School were whisked off to a recording studio by music teacher Alun Renshaw without permission from the school headmaster after being approached by the bands management. Upon discovering what had happened - and hearing the song lyrics - the headmaster declared the song "scandalous" and forbid the students from partaking in television or video appearances. The school was given 1,000 pounds and a platinum record, but no students were ever paid.

REWARD: 7-2

Don't click if you don't want to know...

REWARD
Loved ones! Hoorah! We don't quite know what they're doing as far as a challenge, but they do appear to be not mingling. The promos promise only one castaway will spend time with their loved one, which points to some time alone somewhere following the challenge. The promos also show Ami running happily to somebody, and if only one castaway is seeing somebody, she's as good a guess as any.

IMMUNITY
Kidding! Loved ones are back! They do this every time, it's not even a surprise anymore. They have to expect it. Contestants compete for individual immunity alongside their loved one. Obvious choices to go this week would be Chris or Ami, and I feel that somebody is going to rescue Chris via alliance right now - he's got nothing else left to fight for and they know it. I'm sure they'd like to toss Ami but unfortunately Ami wins Immunity. Now who?

BOOT
Leann's face last week spoke volumes - she's not part of the group that's making the decisions. She's simply waiting for someone to direct her, usually Julie, and that puts her as an under the radar player on the outside of both alliances. With Chris, Scout, and Twila at least (possibly Eliza?) joining forces this week, and Ami with Immunity, my money is on Leann to take the walk this week.

Hilary Duff to Guest on 'Joan of Arcadia'

Falling ratings for CBS' surprise hit from last season - 'Joan of Arcadia' - have prompted a big name February sweeps guest star to sign on. Neither dating nor killing off a character have been able to pull 'Joan' out of a ratings slide, and hopes are that Hilary Duff can create a surge of interest. The former star of 'Lizzie McGuire' hasn't been a ratings puller of her own recently, however, with a couple bomb movies to her recent credit. CBS and Duff both hope a reversal of fortune is in order.

'Family Guy' Episode To Finally Air

Owners of the third season of 'Family Guy' on DVD have by now seen the famous episode 'When You Wish Upon A Weinstein'. The episode had been refused by Fox during the original airing of the show, but appeared on the DVD as a special unaired episode. Now comes word that Fox will air the program for the first time on Friday, December 10th at 9:30PM ET. The show will not arrive uncensored however - a line in a song titled "I Need A Jew" that read "Even though they killed our Lord" will be replaced with "I don't think they killed our Lord".

'LAX' Grounded by NBC

Apparently airport security is no forensic science after NBC announced their new Heather Locklear drama 'LAX' had been cancelled. Three episodes remain but are unlikely to be broadcast. The show began in the 10PM Monday night slot opposite the surging 'CSI: Miami', and was soon shipped off to die on Wednesday at 8PM against the new powerhouse 'Lost'. During their last broadcast the show took in only a 4.5/7 rating to come in third, far behind ABC's 'Lost' with a 10.5/16 and a CBS movie 'Category 6' at 9.4/15.

'American Idol' News

'American Idol' fans take note, there are some release dates approaching you may be interested in. The search for the fourth American Idol begins on Fox Tuesday, January 18th with a two-hour premiere.

Existing Idols and runners-up will be busy in the coming weeks as well with 'Kelly, Ruben & Fantasia: Home For Christmas', a one hour Christmas special featuring the previous Idols on Wednesday, November 24 at 9PM ET. The special drops early in order to promote new traditional albums from Kelly Clarkson and Fantasia Barrino, and a new Christmas album from Ruben Studdard.

Finally, NBC looks to get a little theft revenge on Fox with the announcement of 'A Clay Aiken Christmas' for Wednesday, December 8th at 8PM ET. The one hour special will see Clay make his way through some holiday classics with some help from Barry Manilow, Yolanda Adams, and Megan Mullally.

REWARD: 6-2

Don't click if you don't want to know...

REWARD
For some reason this one appears to be a clear giveaway based on the commercials and teasers. The remaining folks are split into two teams where each team has one bound member who they push and prod through an obstacle course. At the end we see Ami, Chad, Chris, and Eliza celebrating, and then Ami happily enjoying something. Anyways, I'll take the bait.

IMMUNITY
An endurance challenge is shown with the folks clinging to a tall pole. One would think the last person hovering wins. The only hint we have is a shadowed version of the gang heading to Tribal Council with what looks to be a necklace around Julie's neck. I'll go with her.

BOOT
CBS wants us to think Ami is going home tonight, as evidenced by the commercials from this week. I'll say that the girls are smart and patient enough to finish off the last two guys before they start to eat their own. Ami will go soon enough, but Chad - who was almost gone last week - is gone now.

ABC Reunites Al & Peg Bundy

Ed O'Neill, formerly Al Bundy on 'Married.. With Children' will be guesting on ABC's 'Eight Simple Rules' as a new love interest for Katey Sagal, formerly Peg Bundy on 'Married.. With Children'. ABC Pairs 'Alias' With 'Lost'

ABC has finally confirmed the rumours reported here weeks ago - that their cult hit 'Alias' will be moving to new digs following 'Lost' on Wednesday nights at 9PM ET. The original air plan had 'Desperate Housewives' filling the 'Alias' timeslot until January (Sundays at 9PM ET) at which point 'Alias' would return and take it back. However, the runaway success of the Sunday night drama is now fairly well known, and 'Alias' has never brought anything close to great ratings in. The move is actually a positive one for fans as JJ Abrams is the brains behind both series, and there are distinct similarities between the two. With 'Lost' enjoying huge audiences the carry-over should be near automatic. Alias returns January 5th.

For those that care the regular ABC 9PM Wednesday program - 'The Bachelorette' - will be moved to Mondays at 9PM ET beginning January 10th.

Disney Begins 'Toy Story 3' - Without Pixar

The much-publicized divorce between Disney and Pixar is still in the paper stages but that hasn't stopped Disney from lobbing the first hardball. Work began this week on preparations for 'Toy Story 3' - a new installment in the franchise that made Pixar a Hollywood force. Disney owns the rights to any sequels to the films featuring Tom Hanks as Woody and Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear. Allen has expressed interest in a third installment while Hanks has expressed reservations on a non-Pixar 'Toy Story' film and has decided to wait before committing.

Bo Duke Pans 'The Dukes of Hazzard'

Anyone holding out for a Duke boy reunion in the upcoming 'The Dukes of Hazzard' movie may wish to quit holding their breath. In an interview with IESB the original Bo Duke - John Schneider - was asked if he'd like to do a cameo in the new film. The star of 'Smallville' responded: "I wouldn't drive into that movie even with your car", noting he had reservations with the fact that the original series would be parodied.

Meanwhile JoBlo.com posted our first set pictures from the new film starring Johnny Knoxville, Seann William Scott, and Jessica Simpson.

Rachel Hunter Takes on Ginger

The commercials are already airing for the new TBS reality show titled 'The Real Gilligan's Island'. The program promises to take the formula of the old sitcom and expand it into a reality show that strands people on a deserted island. Nothing like creativity. All roles have been cast using real-life counterparts to the original characters - a skipper, first mate, farm girl, millionaire couple, a professor, and of course, an actress. Model/Actress/Rod Stewart Ex-wife Rachel Hunter has been cast in the role of "Ginger". Completely forgetting her hosting duties with ABC's short-lived 'Am I Hot?' Hunter spoke with USA Today: "I always wanted to do a reality show, and this was just the perfect adventure." The show premieres November 30th.

ABC Launches 'Extreme Makeover: Wedding Edition'

The success of 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' has seen ABC create yet another spin-off. 'Extreme Makeover: Wedding Edition' will continue the tradition of finding needy folks to commit all-expenses paid nice deeds to. The show will be launched as a single time one-hour special, but plans are to create a weekly series if ratings prove good. No premiere date was announced.

REWARD
The cubes of mystery make their return as Mark Burnett goes ahead and uses this week to reveal the secret alliances. By secret I mean "the moron guys still think Twila ain't switching". Regardless, it appears to be trivia followed by lighting one of three of your opponents torches, thus eliminating them once all three have been lit. The guys - Chris, Chad, and Sarge - are screwed, which leaves us with the process of elimination on the women's side. Ami and Eliza are likely to illicit immediate attention from the guys while they're alive which leaves Julie, Leann, Scout, and Twila. I'll go with the group and take Scout simply because she's probably going to do the best at trivia, and is likely to receive the least evil from the others.

IMMUNITY
Looks like a little fancy word-makin' is in order, the word search puzzle from the pre-All Stars Survivor. Pre-law student Eliza is the popular pick, and I have no reason to think anyone else will do any better. My gut tells me Chad probably ain't bad here, but I'll stick with the obvious choice.

BOOT
The boys are screwed, that much is obvious. In my fantasy world it appears it's going to be the choice of the girls which of the three is going home, and one has to think that a choice between the three is somewhat obvious. When given the chance you need to cut off the head of the beast, and I'm sure as far as Ami is concerned there's only room for one alpha-male in the gang. Sarge pays the price for his absolutely moronic strategy thus far in the game, and I'm sure his parting words will have my kicking the TV. Enjoy!

First Week of Sweeps Goes to ABC

Every November comes "sweeps week" - the week when all networks parade out major plot twists and surprises to snag ratings and establish ad rates for the following six months. Supported by the surprising successes of 'Desperate Housewives', 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition', and 'Lost', ABC has found themselves as sweeps winners in week one amongst the coveted 18-49 demographic. CBS, however, had the single most watched show of the week with CSI.

Titled '24: Conspiracy' the program will feature all new characters in 24 real-time one-minute episodes. Branson On A 'Quest' for Ratings

Looks like attempt #2 at a billionaire tv show has failed. This time around it's Virgin founder Richard Branson who nobody has bothered to turn on (har! har!). Fox's 'The Rebel Billionaire: Branson's Quest For the Best' snagged a very low five million viewers and landed fifth in their timeslot on Monday night continuing the downward spiral that is Fox's fall lineup.

Golden Globes Deny 'The Passion'

Mel Gibson's 'The Passion of the Christ' won't be winning a Best Drama trophy at the next Golden Globe Awards. The Globes have announced that 'The Passion' is viewed as a Foreign Language Film, and thus can not compete for Best Drama. A similar fate met Michael Moore's popular 'Fahrenheit 9/11' which will fight for Best Documentary rather than Best Drama. My passion would be to see 'Super Size Me' punk out Moore, but that's another story.

ABC's Shocking Sunday Continues to Skyrocket

ABC has to be the happiest network of the new season with news that nothing seems poised to knock their Sunday night tandom from the top of the heap. After going seven years without a bonafide hit show the 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition'/'Desperate Housewives' tandem hit new records for both shows this past Sunday. 'Home' took in 20 million viewers while 'Housewives' shot up to 25 million. CBS' combatting 'Dallas' reunion special did a solid, but unspectacular 14.2 million viewers while Fox's 'Arrested Development' has seen the buzz pay off with 8 million viewers following 'The Simpsons'.

'Clubhouse' Rides the Pines

Looks like a new Saturday night timeslot wasn't enough to draw viewers to CBS' 'Clubhouse'. The baseball drama has been shelved for the remainder of November sweeps - and likely much longer; the same fate offered to 'dr. vegas' last week. Repeats of CBS' popular crime dramas will fill in the timeslot on a night that has become a haven for popular shows from earlier in the week for just about every network.

On Again Off Again 'The Goonies 2' On Again

It just might be a done deal again - my pick for the best movie of all time (yes, I'm serious) 'The Goonies' is scheduled to have a sequel next year. 'The Goonies 2' will feature returning cast members Sean Astin (Mikey), Josh Brolin (Brand), Jeff Cohen (Chunk), Corey Feldman (Mouth), Kerry Green (Andy), Martha Plimpton (Stef), and Jonathan Ke Quan (Data) and Alex Kurtzman may be on board to write. His previous writing credits date way back to the video game version of 'The Goonies 2' and include 'Alias', as well as the upcoming 'Mission: Impossible III'. The film, as previously reported, would see the original Goonies assist their children on another adventure.

'Six Feet Under' To End

Alan Ball, the creator of HBO's hit series 'Six Feet Under', has announced this upcoming fifth season will be the last for the show. The show has earned 39 Emmy nominations - and seven wins - thus far in its four season run. "Working on 'Six Feet Under' has been enormously fulfilling creatively, but if the show is about anything, it's about the fact that everything comes to an end," stated Ball. "I'll always be grateful to HBO for allowing and encouraging us to tell the story we set out to tell in a challenging and uncompromising way."

WWE Begins Mass Firings in Cost Cutting Moves

Fans of World Wrestling Entertainment may find a few less faces to watch during their weekly broadcasts. In a move aimed at cutting costs Vince McMahon has begun mass firings that have seen 10 superstars fired thus far with rumours of up to five more on the way. November 1st saw the releases of A-Train, Billy Gunn, and Test; November 3rd Chuck Palumbo, Gail Kim, and Nidia; and November 4th Jazz, Johnny Stamboli, Rico, and Rodney Mack.

While cost cutting has received the blame for each and every dropped contract there are rumours that honorary McMahon Paul Levesque (Triple H) may have had a hand in the termination of Test.

Don't click if you don't want to know...

REWARD
This one reminds me of that fountain at Epcot that launches water in midair where it falls neatly into a very small opening in a neighbouring fountain. There's one in Vegas at Emeril's too. Cool cool. Anyways, tribes throw water at one another, seemingly to fill up something waiting at the other side. First tribe to fill it so high wins. That tribe appears to be Lopevi simply because the trailers show a rather sad Yasur arriving at Immunity, and a happy Lopevi.

IMMUNITY
New buff colours for Immunity, so my assumption is a merge. It could be another switch-up, but I'll go with merge. Trailers show Rory and Twila trailing, and seem to show Ami, Chris, and Sarge leading at any given time. It's really guess work at that point, and I gotta go with the more athletic of the three - Ami.

BOOT
Here's where things get interesting. Spoilers have pegged Julie for weeks to go in this spot, while just today the two big ones have switched to Rory. Who makes more sense? It appears to be 6-4 in favour of the ladies if we merge now, but it all depends on who joins up with whom. Rory has never truly ingratiated himself with the girls, nor had he with the guys. Meanwhile Julie has latched on to Twila, and while there was no love lost between Twila and some of the others, this little pairing could link them up nicely once merged. I gotta think with Twila and Sarge having their little secret alliance, and Sarge having no problem voting the men off at any turn, that the latter day spoiler of Rory carries a bit more weight. Of course, if it's Julie then I'm an idiot, but since my perfect record is already shot I can afford to go with guesswork.

CBS Euthanizes 'dr. vegas'

Rob Lowe just can't buy a break. Count his record at 0-2 since leaving 'The West Wing' for his own career headlining television dramas. CBS has pulled the plug on 'dr. vegas' effective immediately, taking a cue from ABC and NBC by giving their more popular shows a second airing. While the network will acknowledge only that the show is on "hiatus", the chances of a return are unlikely.

'American Idol' Executive Producers Walk Off the Set

There's trouble in paradise, aka Fox's 'American Idol' set. It seems a war of words between the network and the executive producers resulted in three of the producers walking off the set this past Friday, a claim the network has stated is false. As reported by 'Extra' it seems there is a disagreement over the format of the show for their upcoming fourth season. While the production team wish to alter the format slightly to keep things fresh, Fox is against any tampering with the formula that has proven so successful for them. While Fox claims nobody walked off the set it has been reported by TV Guide that Simon Cowell's current girlfriend is 'Extra' correspondent Terri Seymour, a fairly decent source if you ask me.

'Father Of The Pride' Takes a Rest

Both fans of NBC's 'Father Of The Pride' will be saddened to hear that the monster expensive CGI-animated sitcom will be shelved for November sweeps by the network. The network is quick to point out the show hasn't been cancelled, insisting it will return in December in its Tuesday timeslot. In the meantime you can expect an extra 30 minutes on 'The Biggest Loser', a show that isn't nearly as expensive but raking in much larger ratings.
